lifted by grace
the sea churns—
I fight the salty water
choking, adrift
alone, sinking
a voice whispers
steadier than wind
the ocean stills—
an unseen hand
sets me on a rock
the waves lap gently
their rhythm
a hymn of mercy—
His quiet strength
anchors me in stillness
when david danced
harps and tambourines sound
jubilance and reverence intertwine
David’s radiant face lifts to Heaven
the Ark of the Covenant
approaches Jerusalem
the presence of God among the people
David’s arms lift like wings
from the sheer force of his joy
and he begins to dance
no choreography or restraint
just movement that is wild and free
the abandon of a laughing child
an outpouring of pure delight
he leaps and twirls before God
as the people cheer and sing
his feet pound with creation’s heartbeat
his spirit soars in unbridled glee
his subjects join the whirl
God took him from pasture to palace
and watches his worshipful motions
God smiles at David’s display
an exuberant moment in history
when God watched King David dance
