darkness and light
The darkness, present at the beginning,
hung heavily as an oppressive
blackness over the restless waters.
Was this impenetrable expanse
the necessary foil for
the first appearance of light—
that gleaming explosion of brightness,
the instantaneous burst of energy
that sent the darkness reeling,
powerless to resist this glowing dawn?
Light beams and reflects,
it warms and gladdens and empowers
while darkness only cowers in retreat.
Darkness has no active power,
its only threat is passive,
it advances only when light retreats,
it can be transformed,
but it can never transform.
When the infinite Light
appeared in person on earth,
the darkness could not resist it.
Darkness could not reply.
Darkness was always a question
waiting for a final answer.
the vision
Like the waters of a small stream
trickling over sand and pebbles,
her words flow smoothly,
emerging graciously from her lips,
each word cherished and precious,
each expression thoughtful and kind.
Lively and deeply resonant,
like the waters of the river
cascading down a mountainside,
his words fill the room and
arrest everyone’s attention,
provoking deep reflection.
With voices varied, yet unanimous,
God’s saints speak One Truth
into the frenzied chaos
of competing propagandas,
proclaiming One God, One Savior,
One Way. Then we all,
confessing our hidden hypocrisies
and forsaking our selfish agendas,
fall on our knees
to embrace the One Righteousness
that will One Day cover the entire land
as the waters now cover the seas.
