Album-leaf
I saw you last night
just before a dream.
Or was I awake? It
was hard to tell,
your smile caught me off guard
like the fragile leaves of an old journal
falling from my fingers.
Perhaps it was your voice
that softly dropped
like a moss-covered pine cone,
an autumn pebble
skimming across the glassy surface
of an ocean.
Whichever it was
unleashed a flood of questions:
how far, how deep, how wide—
How long it’s been
since the pages of your yesterdays
have filled the ocean of
my Now.
